Roses - The Color You Select Sends a Message

You could benefit by reading this article if you're a man
who thinks your wife or girlfriend prefers red roses. I was
recently at a conference with both women and men in
attendance. One speaker asked the men of the audience how
many would buy their wife red roses? Every single one
raised their hand. The speaker went on to ask the women how
many would prefer to receive red roses. Only a few women
raised their hands affirmatively, out of a crowd of
hundreds. Next, the speaker asked the women whether they
would like to receive yellow or peach roses, hundreds
responded with a resounding yes.

If you're registering a little shock and dismay, not to
worry.  You might be thinking something along the lines of,
"My wife/girlfriend has never complained, so she most be
one of the red rose types." Well, she's probably never
complained because receiving red roses is still a lovely
gift - even it they're not what she would prefer. A red
rose is better than no rose, but that doesn't mean that she
wouldn't appreciate something a little more uncommon and
unique to her tastes. You can do this. You can figure out
what kind of roses your special woman would really love to
receive. Here are some suggestions to help you.

Start by thinking about her. What are her favorite colors,
and which colors doesn't she like at all? How does she
decorate the house - bright, bold, spare, cluttered? These
facts can tell you a lot about what would appeal to her
aesthetics when you bring her flowers. If you know she
prefers warm colors like yellow and red, you could buy a
combination of both, or even better, purchase a lovely
bouquet of red-tipped yellow roses. These are roses
uniquely fitted to her tastes.

There are other things to consider as well, especially if
you're not already married. I just gave an example of
buying for a woman, even if she's not your significant
other, a bouquet of red-tipped yellow roses. If you're
married and these are your wife's favorite colors, go for
it! However, if you're buying these for a friend, be aware
that these are generally considered the "friendship-to-
love" roses. You're moving from friendship (yellow) into
love (red). Now, if you just happen to know these are the
persons favorite flowers it's okay, but if you're trying to
pick out flowers for a friend's birthday be careful what
you're saying. The color and type of flowers have meanings
to those in the know. Other examples include white for
purity and innocence, red for love, and pink for a crush or
new love.

Go out and buy the roses with purpose. You want to be able
to tell your loved one why you chose these roses especially
for her. If they're red roses, tell her why you chose them.
Nothing is more special to a woman than knowing that her
man took the time to consider what she would like and that
he has a wonderful (and romantic!) reason for why he chose
this gift. Understanding and valuing the woman you love and
letting her know that you notice unique things about her is
the best gift you can offer!
